Thinking Nurse

This blog will reflect my interests in learning disabilities, nursing, nursing theory, philosophy and politics and my general interests in the arts and literature. (Nursing is an art as well as a science!) Philosophy and nursing have been intrinsically linked since the days of Socrates, his mother was a midwife, and taught him everything he knew!

Rise of Anti-Recruitment Movement In USA

This post on Michael Moore's Website might surprise some of us in Britain who tend to believe that the people of the USA are solidly behind the occupation in Iraq.

Just like here in the UK, there is a growing movement opposing the occupation.

Here is an article about the growing counter-recruitment movement that is beginning to build in US high schools, written by a participant in the movement that forced the US army to retreat (at least for one day).

Hi, I found your blog while searching for other things nursey (I am a psychiatric nurse in the States myself) and I noticed this post. There are a HUGE amount of Americans who were against the war as it started (and when protesting got thrown in jail and threatened to be tried for treason. Treason! How brain washed is that?) and continue to oppose our brutal treatment of Iraqi citizens and the truly hideous torture done out of the country to avoid US law. That bastard didn't even sign the Geneva Convention. There are many of us that are organized and fighting him and his cronies every step of the way. But this small but extremely rich and powerful has been working quietly for years to enact this take over (read the New American Century documents and you will see exactly who is pulling the strings and what horrible thing that will happen next that they will package so neat and clean that our media and brainwashed citizenry will just swallow without a second thought. They make me sick to read, actually.) This small but rich and connected segment has distorted freedom of the press, and we have a country run by corporations, and all the major media are owned by the same conservative nut balls that helped him steal yet another election. Did you realize that the Downing Street memos haven't even been really reported here? No one seems to care, but lets spend millions of dollars harassing Clinton over buggering an intern. Personally, I just pretend to be Canadian. That is not my government and I want no part of their actions. To get back to your initial point, I think that it is right wing media manipulation that tries to convince the resisters here that we are a minority as well as the rest of the world. Lie after lie after lie.

I am Fae_struck @ Live journal if you wish to contact me over anything here. Best of luck with all you do!
